How are tooth-colored fillings placed?
Your comfort is extremely important to us, so before we begin filling your cavity, we’ll take steps to make sure that your tooth is numb so that you don’t feel a thing.
Once you are comfortable, we’ll begin by carefully removing the decayed portion of your tooth. One of the features we love about composite resin fillings is that we don’t have to remove as much healthy tooth material as we do with amalgam fillings, which allows us to preserve more of your tooth.
After the area has been cleaned and sterilized, we’ll start applying the filling in layers, curing each layer as it is applied. This allows the material to actually bond with your tooth, holding it in place securely and significantly reducing the risk of the filling falling out later.
Once the entire cavity has been filled, we’ll gently scrape away any extra filling material and then polish the tooth so that the filling blends in perfectly with your enamel. When the filling is complete, it’s highly unlikely that even you will be able to tell where it is!
