How can I prevent cavities?
Even though tooth-colored fillings allow us to repair cavities without the dark spots and discoloration associated with metal fillings, the truth is that we would really prefer to prevent cavities in the first place. Once a cavity occurs, the tooth structure is weakened, and even with a filling in place, that tooth is still prone to further damage.
We know you’ve heard the drill before – brush and floss every day and visit the dentist for regular cleanings. You’ve probably been hearing this since you were a little kid!
This advice may seem simple, but it’s sound. Brushing your teeth twice a day keeps plaque and damaging acids from staying in contact with the surfaces of your teeth, and flossing hits the spaces in between the teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach. Even with great technique and habits, you’re still likely to miss traces of plaque here and there, so a routine cleaning helps us to clean up those last little bits, lowering your risk for cavities even further. We can also provide you with a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your enamel and provide tips for improving your technique so you can get the most benefit out of your routine.
