Following a few simple steps can protect your health so you can sing your carols and deck the halls with the best of them.
Holiday Oral Care Tips
- Wash your hands. This might sound like common sense, but chances are you are not washing your hands frequently enough. Traveling by air means that everything you touch is in question. Washing your hands as much as possible at the airport and on the plane will help protect your health.
- Don’t touch your face. When you are traveling, keep your hands away from your face unless you can wash them first. Your hands are germ magnets because they touch everything from handrails to filthy door handles. Wash your hands before touching your eyes, scratching your nose, or eating.
- Keep your toothbrush clean and dry. Bacteria don’t care if your toothbrush goes in your mouth; in fact, it is the perfect place for them to multiply! A moist toothbrush is a nice place for them to take up residence and it might make you sick. Keeping your toothbrush clean and dry will help prevent this.
- Eat properly. Just because you are on the road does not give you a free pass to eat nothing but potato chips and soda. Eat a clean, well-balanced diet so your body receives the nutrients it needs to fight off illness.
- Stay hydrated. If you are traveling, you might forget to drink sufficient water. However, staying hydrated is important. If you travel to higher altitudes, remember that you can dehydrate more quickly.
- Get plenty of sleep. Exhaustion can put your immune system at risk. Make sure you take time out to get plenty of rest while you are on the go.
