Dental anxiety is a problem for patients of all ages. The fear of the unknown can play a significant factor, but previous experiences, fear of pain, and unexplained anxiety all factor into how comfortable you are at your dental appointment.

It's normal for kids to be apprehensive in the dental office

Children are no exception to dental phobias. In fact, because children often do not understand what to expect at their dental appointments, dental anxiety can be particularly traumatic for them. At our Bridgeton, MO dental office, we work with parents and children to help ease kids’ dental anxiety.

We recommend bringing your child in by their first birthday for a happy visit. Even if you are new to our practice, if you suspect your child has a fear of the dentist, we will have you bring him or her in for a meet and greet so that we can familiarize them with our office.

We strive to make each dental appointment a fun and positive experience for your child. Amy, one of our front office team members even knows how to make balloon animals to delight your youngster. When they are old enough, we will even offer a prize at the end of their appointment. We work to familiarize them with our office and they will realize that it is not such a scary place. Then, we will ensure that they remain comfortable for any appointment that requires treatment.

We will speak in terms that your child can understand, but that will not create alarm. We are experts at explaining treatment in terms that kids can understand. We will ask for your help, too! Make sure you avoid using any negative terms about your dental visits so that you do not create any unnecessary anxiety around their treatment.
