Preventive Care in Bridgeton, MO
Preventive care is the cornerstone of our practice.
With a dedication to excellent home habits and regular checkups and cleanings, you can prevent most common dental concerns from ever taking hold – including decay and periodontal disease, the number one cause of missing teeth in U.S. adults. Preventive care is one of the most important dental services that we offer.
Education and Involvement
Education and information empower patients to take charge of their own dental health. When patients are involved in their own healthcare, they make better choices and have better results.
Our goal is to give you the best results possible. One of the ways we do this is through your dental fitness score. We’ll perform a thorough examination and then give you a score that rates your home care on a 0 to 100 scale. Like a credit score, your dental fitness score can be used as a tool to note where you excel and see where improvements can be made, and we’ll use this information to create your preventive treatment plan.
Your Home Care Routine
You’ve heard it before, and we’ll say it again: Brushing and flossing are absolutely crucial for good dental health. At your regular check-ups, we’ll discuss ways you can improve your routine and also tricks and tips for making your home care routine a habit. If we believe that certain products will benefit your health, we’ll let you know.
Some of the tips we provide for improving your oral health don’t even involve a toothbrush or dental floss. We can also discuss your diet and your overall health since these are related to your oral health as well.
Your cleaning will be performed by our skilled and gentle dental hygienist, Ashley. Ashley is knowledgeable and provides exceptionally thorough cleanings to help you have a fresh start every six months. In some cases, more frequent cleanings may be appropriate, and if this is true for you, Ashley and Dr. Burgdorf will discuss the reasons why we might make this recommendation.
Even with a perfect brushing and flossing record, you still need regular cleanings. It’s practically impossible to completely remove all the plaque and tartar from your teeth. Everyone’s teeth have little nooks, crannies, ridges, and other places for plaque to hide, and over time, these traces of plaque can pose a much bigger problem.
Your twice-yearly examinations with Dr. Burgdorf allow him to check your teeth for any potential problems that might be developing so we can head them off early. We believe in always practicing the most conservative dentistry possible to make the process simple, comfortable, and convenient for you, and routine examinations help make this a reality. Catching a cavity when it’s still in the beginning stages is much better than catching it once it’s done significant damage to the interior of your tooth.
We take the time to get to know you and understand your needs as well as your dental health goals. One-on-one time with the dentist is important, and we value this quality time as well.
